Connect your AI to your stream

stdin is a task list and journal stored as plain markdown on your own computer. It speaks MCP, the open standard for connecting an AI to tools, so any assistant that supports it gets live context on your day — what's due, what you've finished, what you wrote, what you've told it to remember — and can capture tasks and notes for you. The same files, the same memory, whichever AI you're talking to: tell one something and the others know it.

The server URL is the same everywhere: https://stdin.app/mcp. When an AI connects, stdin shows an approval page where you choose what it may do; you can revoke any of them later from Settings → Connected apps, and every change an AI makes is listed in Settings → What your agents did, with an Undo.

Claude

  1. Open claude.ai in a browser → Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
  2. Enter the URL https://stdin.app/mcp and name it stdin.
  3. Claude opens stdin's approval page — sign in, tick what it may do, tap Allow access.
  4. In any Claude chat (web or mobile app), open the tools menu and enable stdin.

ChatGPT

  1. Custom connectors need Developer mode, on a Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu plan, in the web app: Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings → Developer mode.
  2. Then Settings → Apps & Connectors → Create. Name it stdin, set the MCP server URL to https://stdin.app/mcp, authentication OAuth, and create.
  3. ChatGPT sends you to stdin's approval page — sign in, tick what it may do, tap Allow access.
  4. In a chat, open the + menu → More and enable stdin. ChatGPT asks before it makes changes unless you tell it not to.

Gemini

  1. Custom apps for Gemini need a personal Google account (not work or school) with Keep Activity on.
  2. In the Gemini web app: Settings & help → Connected apps → Custom apps → Add a custom app.
  3. Enter the MCP server URL https://stdin.app/mcp and follow the prompts to stdin's approval page — sign in, tick what it may do, tap Allow access.

Access lasts 90 days and refreshes automatically; revoke it any time from the AI's own connector settings or from stdin's Settings → Connected apps.

Try these prompts

> What should I focus on today?
> What's on my plate today? Anything overdue?
> Add a task: renew the car registration every year starting August 20.
> I finished the water bill — mark it done, and journal that I'm relieved. Mood: good.
> How was my week? Read my last few journal entries and tell me what pattern you see.
> When did I last write about the landlord? Search my journal.
> Remember that I'm off dairy.

What a connected AI can do

Each of these is a permission you grant or withhold on the approval page. Untick "write journal entries" and that AI simply doesn't see the tool.

ToolAccessDoes
get_contextreadThe whole picture in one call: today in your timezone, your standing instructions, the shape of your open work, what agents remember about you, and a gist of your last week's journal. Any AI you connect starts here.
list_tasksreadYour open tasks with due dates, projects, tags, and overdue flags.
read_journalreadRecent journal pages — timestamped entries and moods.
search_journalreadThe whole journal history, by word, #tag, linked project or date range — or the index of tags and projects in use. With include, completed and open tasks and remembered facts join the same timeline (each needs its own permission).
weekly_reviewreadThe week at a glance: completions, carry-overs, mood trail.
add_taskwriteNatural-language capture — dates, #tags, @projects, and "every…" repeats are parsed like you typed them.
complete_taskwriteTicks a task off; recurring tasks spawn their next occurrence.
snooze_taskwriteMoves a task's due date.
add_journal_notewriteAppends a timestamped note (with optional mood) to today's page.
add_notewriteKeeps a note, link or article as its own markdown file in your wiki, filed under a project with backlinks; unfiled ones get placed by the clerk.
read_notereadOne note in full, with everything that links to it.
list_notesreadYour notes and links, newest first, by project.
recallreadReads back what agents have remembered about you, from Memory/ in your vault.
rememberwriteKeeps a lasting fact about you as a dated line in Memory/<topic>.md — a file you can read, edit, or forget from Settings.

Where your data lives

Everything an AI reads and writes is markdown in a folder on your computer, relayed through stdin's router (or, if you chose a hosted vault at signup, in your own folder on stdin's server — same files, and Download everything always works). On your own computer, agents work only while it is on. If it's asleep, the tools return a clear "host offline" message and change nothing — for privacy, the encrypted offline copy that keeps your app working is never exposed to agents. See the privacy policy.
